4minute not afraid of 2NE1

Five members of the new female group 4minute say that they’re not worried about competing against another recently-debuted girl band 2NE1.

After performing the group’s debut song, “Hot Issue,” in a cable music program, 4minute members said that they admire 2NE1 and it’s an honor for them to stand on the same stage with them. However, they don’t think 2NE1 as their rivals, because their music styles are totally different. The leader of 4minute, Nam Ji-hyun, said that each member of the group has a very distinct personality, which is incorporated into the songs. She told the reporters to look forward to their performances.

4minute made its debut on Thursday’s “M Countdown.” Their network appearance will begin with “Music Bank” on Saturday, followed by “Show! Music Center” on MBC and “Hot Pop Songs” on SBS. (KBS)

Celebrities to get commentation from Korean military

Celebrities currently serving their military duty will be awarded commendations from the Army Chief of Staff. Singers Psy (real name Park Jae-sang), Sung Si-kyung, and Kang-ta (real name Ahn Chil-hyun), actors Yang Dong-geun and Jae-hee (real name Lee Hyeon-kyun), and comedian Hong Dong-myeong will be honored for faithfully fulfilling their services to the country.

Psy and Sung are applauded for boosting the morale of fellow troops and elevating the status of the military by taking part in various military PR events with their army band members. The commendations are given to Kang-ta, Yang, and Jae-hee for participating in a military musical called, “Mine.”
Psy will be awarded at a cultural center in Gangwon Province on July 10th, just one day before his discharge. He had to serve the military term again after he was found to have served unsatisfactorily the first time. So it meant a great deal for Psy to be commended for faithfully fulfilling his military responsibility the second time around. The dates of award ceremonies for other celebrities are yet to be announced. (KBS)

Nomination dispute mars Daejong Film Festival

Singer-turned-actress Jang Na-ra’s nomination for Best Actress at the upcoming Daejong (Grand Bell) Film Festival, the country’s most prestigious film awards, has sparked a stormy debate.

The festival’s nomination of Jang for Korea’s equivalent of the Oscars was met with surprise by many as her film “The Sky and the Sea,” in which she plays the role of an autistic musician, has yet to be released in theaters. Meanwhile, popular actress Ha Ji-won was excluded from the nomination list despite receiving critical acclaim for roles in two headline-making films this year ― “Haeundae,” a tsunami blockbuster that became one of the highest grossing films in Korean box office history, and “Closer to Heaven,” a tearjerker melodrama that also garnered much attention.

In response to public criticism, the festival issued a press release Thursday explaining the circumstances. “The Sky and the Sea was completed within the designated time period to be considered for the awards,” the release said. “Well-made films featuring fine acting can be submitted for judgment and are eligible for nomination, even if they have not yet hit theaters.”

Concerning Ha’s exclusion from the nomination list, the festival said that “although she delivered good performances in ‘Haeundae’ and ‘Closer to Heaven’ the vote was split among judges” ― meaning that when an actor appears in more than one film in a pool of works submitted for nomination, votes are often split because nominations for best actor/actress are made according to his/her role in a particular film.

Ha Defends Jury

Furthermore, the festival stressed that both Jang and Ha are talented actresses and questioning the confidence of festival will only hurt the local film industry.

Ha expressed her faith in Daejong and its fairness in judgment through an official statement via management agency Wellmade Star M, saying “I do not have an inch of doubt concerning Daejong’s fairness.”

“I am truly happy and thankful for all the love and attention I received this year. For each piece I work on, I always think of my shortcomings and only try my best. As an actor, being loved by the audience gives me the greatest pleasure and pride. But I do not perform roles with an award in mind, and I don’t think other actors do either,” she said.

“Another actor has been hurt due to recent controversies over the nominations, and I deeply emphasize with my fellow actor. I hope the negative comments will stop,” she said.

Meanwhile, Jang makes a comeback on the local screen after long hiatus. She had been based mainly in China with stints in singing and acting. She was chosen as “the hottest actress of 2006” in a survey conducted by a Chinese broadcasting company over stars such as Gong Li.

Before moving to China, the 28-year-old starred in several hit Korean TV soaps including “Success Story of a Bright Girl” (SBS, 2002). “The Sky and the Sea” is due in theaters on Oct. 28. (Korea Times)

Debut SHINee

SHINee made their debut television appearance on SBS's Popular Songs on May 25, 2008, performing their first promotional single, "누난 너무 예뻐 (Replay)". The group's first stage performance was on May 22, 2008 on M.NET's M! Countdown. On June 7, 2008, SHINeeperformed at the Dream Concert in the Seoul Olympic Stadium along with other popular Korean stars, and Jonghyun performed in the opening act along with other members from Super Junior and Girls' Generation as a part of "Dream Band".

Members from the group have also gone on to making a number of guest appearances on radio shows such as KBS's Super Junior Kiss the Radio, a radio show hosted by Super Junior members Leeteukand Eunhyuk. SHINee visited other radio shows that were hosted by other Super Junior members, such as Shindong and Kim Shinyoung's Stop the Boring Time and Sungmin and Sunny's Reckless Radio, and Kangin and Taeyeon's Chin Chin Radio, where they performed a few of their songs. They have also made many appearances on various television shows, including Star King, Star Golden Bell and Mnet School of Rock.

SHINee received the "Rookie of the Month" award on Cyworld 9 days after their debut and won the "Hot New Star" award at MNet 20's Choice Award 2008.[citation needed]

SHINee released their full debut album, The SHINee World, on August 28, 2008. The first single released from the album was "산소 같은 너" [Love Like Oxygen], which is a cover of "Show the World" by Martin Hoberg Hedegaard, originally written by the Danish songwriting/production team of Thomas Troelsen, Remee and Lucas Secon. The official music video has been released. On September 18th, 2008, SHINee's "Love Like Oxygen" was the #1 song on M! Countdown. A few days afterwards, SHINee received the mutizen award for "Love Like Oxygen" on SBS Inkigayo. On October 3, 2008, SHINee was awarded the "Asia's Best Newcomer" award at the 5th Asia Song Festival.

SHINee's first reality show, SHINee's YunHaNam (hosted by Mnet), had its first episode broadcasted on August 8, 2008. Each episode is loosely based on the five boys' meeting and date(s) with an older woman (also known as a 'noona'). At the end of each (30 minute) episode, the noona picks one of the boys as her choice for a solo date. The show's final, 12th episode was released on October 16, 2008

Choi Siwon and Han Geng to Act in “Gossip Girl”

Kyuhyun Number 1 ‘Singer best Matched in a School Uniform

Popular idol group Super Junior member Kyuhyun mendapatkan posisi pertama untuk survey “penyanyi yang paling cocok memakai baju sekolah adalah?”

Survey ini diadakan oleh Bugs Music Bugs Vote dari tanggal 24 Agustus – 30 Agustus, kandidatnya adalah Jo Kwon(2AM), Kim Junsu(2PM), IU, Zinger(Secret), Sulli(f(x)) dan lain-lain.

Kyuhyun mendapatkan posisi pertama dengan menerima 1,021 vote dari jumlah voting sebanyak 2,037 vote jadi sekitar 51% dari vote yang ada. IU  berada di posisi nomor 2 dengan jumlah voting 539 vote jadi sekitar 27%. Ada perbedaan jumlah yang besar dari kedua orang ini.

Banyak netizen yang berkomentar, “dengan tinggi Kyuhyun yang menjulang, Kyuhyun bisa syuting iklan memakai baju sekolah tanpa ada masalah” “Aku dengar Kyuhyun mendapatkan nilai yang bagus ketika masih sekolah. Dia bisa terlihat sangat bagus memakai seragam sekolah karena dia mempunyai imej sebagai seorang pelajar” inilah beberapa alasan mengapa mereka memilih Kyuhyun.
